Aswani Aswath is a Singaporean bilingual writer and teaching artist who graduated from the National University of Singapore with a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in English Literature and a minor in Theatre Studies. She holds a Masters of Arts (Distinction) in Creative Writing from LASALLE College of the Arts and a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Nottingham.

Aswani began her theatre training at Buds Youth Theatre (BYT) in 2010. As a former Writer-in-Residence for Buds Theatre Company, she wrote scripts for schools and community-based projects and conducted playwriting workshops for BYT. Several of her school plays including, Book Riot, A Little More Woman and @iamelodie have cliched the Distinction award at the Singapore Youth Festival. Her plays have also been performed at various festivals by the Esplanade, the Arts House, Wild Rice, T:>works and Ravindran Drama Group amongst others. In 2020, she completed the Playwrights’ Cove mentorship programme run by The Necessary Stage.

A creative at heart, Aswani also dabbles in screenwriting, poetry and storytelling and has been involved in various projects with industry professionals.  Her co-screenplay Irandu (Invictus Productions), was nominated for Best Limited Drama Series at Mediacorp Vasantham's Pradhana Vizha Awards 2022  while her screenplay Ainthiani (Brahmastra SG, Darshan K) won Best Asian Short Film at the Tamizhagam International Film Festival 2025 and was a Finalist at the Sweden Film Festival 2025. 

Aswani's works have been published in several anthologies including Plays for Youth (by Epigram Books, in collaboration with the Singapore Drama Educators Association) and in What We Inherit (by Ethos Books in collaboration with AWARE). 


As a Literary Arts educator, she steers her students to harness the power of storytelling to express themselves creatively. Aswani is also serving in the Executive Committee of the Singapore Drama Educators Association as the Secretary from 2023 to 2025. 

Through her diverse portfolios, Aswani advocates for the recognition of multilingual and marginalised voices, embodying her vision for a more inclusive society.
