Photo credits: The Storytelling Centre Ltd I am humbled to have shared the stage with international storytellers at StoryFest!
I was first mentored by master storyteller, Kamini Ramachandran, at the Young Storytellers' Mentorship Project in 2017 run by The Storytelling Centre Ltd. Since then, I have performed thrice at StoryFest, enlightening audiences with ancient Asian folktales, each one a window offering a glimpse into different beliefs, values and ways of life. Participating in these festivals helped me recognise the significance of the oral tradition, the importance in continuing this practice for the next generation and gain a deeper appreciation for Asian mythology. It was also a process of self-discovery for me. Growing up as an introvert, I have struggled with speaking in front of an audience and would often stand by the walls, fading into the background of conversations. Storytelling has gently pushed me out of my comfort zone, allowing me to discover a new part of myself. Of course, managing these emotions is an ongoing process, but I am glad to have gained more confidence in public speaking! |
